The Roar

Ever since I began writing in school, I knew I loved it. As a kid, I remember drafting stories in my head and writing in journals quite often. I decided to sign up for the journalism course because I had been exposed to journalistic writing while working on the yearbook and was intrigued by the style. Ever since I began learning about all different aspects of journalism my junior year, I’ve been entranced by the many forms it can take. Writing for The Roar is one of my favorite high school activities. I also have been able to pursue an internship at the Journal Tribune. There, I get to experience the professional world of news writing while publishing my own articles. I’ve enjoyed journalistic writing so much that I’ve decided to continue studying it at Suffolk University next fall.

Something I love about journalism is it gives me the ability to meet new people in the school and the community and be able to tell the world their story. Journalism gives me the ability to give a voice to the voiceless, and it’s a really powerful skill.

Besides writing for The Roar and the Journal Tribune, I’m also involved in other activities within the school such as student council, Interact, yearbook, the mentor program, National Honor Society, and tennis. All of these activities keep me pretty busy, but I also enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my dog, Sophie.

My favorite thing about living in Maine is the beach. The sounds of the waves crashing and the smell of the salt air really helps me become inspired to write. Writing creatively is really enjoyable for me, and sometimes I dream of publishing my own novel someday.

Essentially, all readers need to know about me is that I really love to write, talk to people, and get involved within the school and community. Writing for The Roar and becoming apart of so many activities at Biddeford High School has made my time here so much more enjoyable.
